It was a fireworks display in Ikenne on Saturday as title-chasing Remo Stars FC defeated Kano Pillars 2-1 to maintain their strong hold on the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 23.
The victory further cemented Remo Stars FC's lead at the top of the NPFL table, with 48 points from 23 matches.
Veteran striker Sikiru Alimi gave Daniel Ogunmodede’s side the lead after five minutes, slotting the ball home following a superb cross from Segun Ogunribide.
Ibrahim Abubakar guided home a low ball for Remo Stars’ second goal in the 40th minute after the Pillars goalkeeper parried Alimi’s shot into his path.
Abba Adam reduced the deficit for Kano Pillars with a beautiful headed goal off Abdullahi Ali’s cross in first-half stoppage time.
It was Adam’s fifth league goal of the season.
In Maiduguri, El-Kanemi Warriors defeated Nasarawa United 1-0, with Umar Al Amin scoring the decisive goal one minute before the half-hour mark.
Also, in Ibadan, second-placed Shooting Stars SC beat arch-rival Bendel Insurance FC by a lone goal.
