The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission has urged the players of Bendel Insurance Football Club to put behind them the disappointment of their 1-0 loss to Shooting Stars on Saturday in Ibadan and focus on defeating Enyimba FC of Aba in Wednesday's rescheduled Matchday 20 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The Edo State Sports Commission boss issued this charge on Sunday afternoon while reacting to the match in Ibadan.
He encouraged the players to see themselves as true professionals and move past the disappointment of the Ibadan defeat.
Shooting Stars SC defeated Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin City by a lone goal on Saturday evening at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, in a Matchday 23 fixture of the 2024/2025 NPFL season.
Godwin Odibo scored the only goal of the match in the 81st minute, helping the hosts secure maximum points.
Hon. Amadin, in his message to the team, urged the players to direct all their energy and give their full concentration to the match against the People's Elephant on Wednesday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
"Though I was confident that we were going to secure at least a point in Ibadan, now that it didn’t happen that way, let us focus on Wednesday’s game. We should recover from our loss with a comfortable home victory over Enyimba," he said.
The Benin Arsenals had defeated the Oluyole Warriors by the same goal margin in their first-round meeting in Benin.
Bendel Insurance will host Enyimba FC on Wednesday in the rescheduled Matchday 20 fixture at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
The Benin Arsenals will also be at home on Saturday to host Niger Tornadoes in the 2024/2025 NPFL Matchday 24 fixture.
Bendel Insurance are now 16th in the standings with 25 points after 22 games, ahead of their crucial fixtures against Enyimba FC and Niger Tornadoes at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
