A more resolute Rangers International FC on Monday completed its back-to-back victory over a sloppy Ikorodu City FC in the return leg of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 22 fixtures.
The match, played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, popularly known as the "Cathedral," saw the defending champions score two goals to defeat the Oga Boys, making it a double-header win.
Recall that the Flying Antelopes had earlier traveled to Lagos to secure a 1-0 win over the Oga Boys at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Lagos.
In the return fixture, two goals in each half, scored by forward Godwin Obaje in the 45th minute and Isaac Saviour in the 89th minute of the cagey game, were all that the defending champions needed to beat the hard-fighting Ikorodu City.
The Fidelis Ilechukwu-tutored side could have doubled their lead in the 60th minute but missed a golden chance after Ikorodu's goalkeeper was beaten.
Ikorodu’s closest chance came in the 79th minute when a ball in the Rangers' box was struck sky-high over the bar by an Ikorodu attacker in a desperate effort to score a goal.
They also subjected their hosts to incessant attacks, but poor finishing denied them at least a goal.
The victory has restored some confidence to the Flying Antelopes' camp, who lost their last league match at home, putting a dent in the team’s challenge for the continental ticket this season.
