As the second round of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) 2024/25 officially resumes this weekend, the match between Bendel Insurance Football Club and Enyimba FC, originally scheduled for Monday, January 27, will not take place as planned. The league management body, NPFL, has announced that the match is postponed indefinitely.
The postponement, according to the NPFL, is due to Enyimba FC's inability to play their remaining two first-round outstanding matches because of their CAF Confederation Cup engagements. Enyimba's campaign in the competition ended with a 3-1 loss to Zamalek FC of Egypt on Sunday.
According to an NPFL circular signed by Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, new rescheduled dates will be communicated to the affected teams and match officials accordingly.
Other second-round matches that have been postponed include Kwara United versus Shooting Stars and Kano Pillars versus El-Kanemi Warriors.
Bendel Insurance will, therefore, travel to Port Harcourt on Thursday, January 30, to take on Rivers United in the Match Day 21 fixture. They will also return to Benin to host Katsina United in Match Day 22 on February 2 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, where fans and supporters will be welcome to the stadium.
The Benin Arsenals finished the first round in 15th position on the league table with 21 points, with Coach Greg Ikhenoba in charge of the technical crew after the resignation of former head coach Monday Odigi.
Meanwhile, Greg Ikhenoba, the former assistant coach of Bendel Insurance FC, has been confirmed as head coach for the Benin Arsenals after his impressive performance as the interim head coach following the resignation of his predecessor.
His ability to guide the team from the relegation zone to safety before the end of the first round, winning three matches, drawing three, and losing one of seven matches, convinced the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, who approved Coach Ikhenoba's confirmation a week ago.
The Edo Sports Commission chairman also appointed Roland Abu as general manager, Peter Obanor as team manager, and Austin Iyamu and Rolland Ewere as technical director and assistant coach, respectively, to strengthen the technical and management teams ahead of the second round of the league.
