Akwa United FC returned to the Goodswill Akpabio Stadium on Sunday with high hopes but were unable to secure the valuable points against the hard-fighting Abia Warriors.
Coach Imama Amapakabo of the Ochendo Boys came out strong against the Promise Keepers, having painfully lost the first match of the season at home to the rampaging Remo Stars.
As for the home team, Akwa United, they wanted to build on their away point earned in their visit to Lobi Stars of Markurdi in the season's opener, a game that ended goalless.
The Promise Keepers had to come from behind to level the score, as the visiting Ochendo Boys scored the first goal in the 5th minute when Ojonugwa Adejoh smashed in a loose ball.
The Promise Keepers, aware of the danger ahead, pressed on. A good combination on the right between James and Seyi led to a final pass to Osoba, whose lovely cross into the box was saved by Abia Warriors goalkeeper Ali Ishaku.
With the match almost ending in favor of Abia Warriors, Wisdom Stephen's attempt was handled in the box, and the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty.
Akwa United FC's Edidiong Ezekiel, however, scored from the spot five minutes into extra time to save his team's blushes.
