The only thing on the mind of coach Imama Amapakabo of Abia Warriors is how his side will bounce back from the unfortunate 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 1 home loss against Remo Stars FC.
The Amapakabo-led Ochendo Boys were completely outclassed on Sunday by the relentless Remo Stars FC, who inflicted a 0-2 defeat on them, a record loss that the club will have to recover from.
The appointment of the experienced and former league-winning coach Amapakabo was meant to make the club more competitive, but the home loss is a major setback.
As the 2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 2 approaches, Amapakabo needs to revamp his team to face Akwa United, a side that looks motivated after recording a stunning 0-0 away draw against one of the most consistent clubs in Nigeria, Lobi Stars, in their first game.
For Akwa United head coach, Muhammed Baba Ganaru, securing a valuable point on the road in their opening game of the 2024/2025 NPFL season against Lobi Stars was satisfactory, given the club's struggles in the previous NPFL season.
The Promise Keepers held Lobi Stars to a goalless draw at the Lafia City Stadium, a result that Baba Ganaru feels reflects his team’s strong performance, despite the missed opportunity to win.
Babaganaru further noted that his players need to be more composed in front of goal. "We will continue to work on the team's scoring abilities and also boost the players' confidence," he added.
One thing common to both teams is that they failed to score, as their strikers drew blanks.
For the home team, Abia Warriors, and the away team, Akwa United, goals will be crucial if one of them is to secure the three points at stake.
However, for the Promise Keepers' Technical Adviser, Muhammed Babaganaru, his players are determined to secure maximum points in their clash against Abia Warriors.
Babaganaru stated that his team would need to improve on their performance to achieve their goal in the game.
"The game against Abia Warriors will be our first home match of the season, and we know it will be a tough contest, but we are committed and ready to fight for all three points because this is a must-win game for us," Babaganaru said.
"We have to build on the one point we earned in Lafia by ensuring that we win on Sunday.
"As we begin this season, we can't afford to leave any stone unturned, and we must hit the ground running from the first whistle.
"We have done a lot of work within the team, and we trust that the boys understand the importance of starting well. We are optimistic that my players will be in top shape to deliver."
