Abia Warriors coach Imama Amapakabo has blasted the center referee after his team earned a draw against Akwa United FC at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
The 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match ended 1-1 in a game largely dominated by the visitors in front of the home fans.
Amapakabo, in his assessment of the match, questioned some of the referee's decisions.
"We played 96 minutes of the game. It is at the referee's discretion to decide the number of minutes added.
"It baffles me because I was wondering during the second 45 minutes where the five additional minutes came from.
"Having played up to 96 minutes, there was a penalty that, in my opinion, took a few seconds to call, which changed the narrative of the game completely.
"This is how we want to promote Nigerian football to the world, and I think it is very wrong.
"It's still early in the season. This is the second week, and we are already seeing these negative aspects being presented to the world."
