The win propelled Shooting Stars to fourth place on the table with 27 points.
Despite Kano Pillars’ dominance in possession and the creation of numerous scoring opportunities in the first half, they failed to capitalize on their chances.
Shooting Stars, however, made the most of their limited opportunities, with Akpan and Mustapha scoring crucial goals.
The coach of Shooting Stars SC, Gbenga Ogunbote, said that his team lacked the needed cutting edge because the team's center forwards were injured.
"In the first half, we had many challenges in getting the players together, especially with injuries.
"We failed to come to the party in the first half, but towards the latter part of the first half, we were able to get a little bit of credit.
"In the second half, we were able to address the challenges from the first half.
"We have a target as a team; we want to finish at the top, and we should have no excuses.
"We have worked so hard, believing that we have the backing of the government.
"We would like to beef up the attacking setup. Even the players who have injuries, we are just patching them up, but we don't want to ruin their future.
"The one who is fit to play is in the national team. We will bring in two center forwards.
"The next game is also big, so what we are praying for is a level playing field. It's not that we are invincible and cannot lose, but it should be devoid of human interference.
"As long as we have fair officiating, then things will go the right way.
"The supporters have been our 13th player, and we want to thank them immensely for their support."
