Recall that their former coach, Mohammed Babaganaru, left the club after Monday night's match.
In the 2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 17, the managerless former champions traveled to the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, but they were beaten by the home team.
United’s woes deepened as they suffered another loss.
Akwa United's Chijioke Alaekwe gave his side the lead in the 23rd minute, but Bayelsa United responded with goals from Sadiq Auwal (41’) and Yahaya Ibrahim (80’) to secure the comeback victory.
Akwa United’s defeat marks their eighth consecutive loss on the road, leaving them at the bottom of the league standings and in danger of relegation.
The Promise Keepers now have only four wins, nine losses, and four draws, earning just 16 points.
On the other hand, Bayelsa United FC made a giant leap to 8th position with 24 points from six wins, six draws, and five losses.
