Remo Stars FC of Ikenne were emphatic in victory on Sunday as they dispatched El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri 2-0.
The 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 16, played in front of boisterous fans in Ikenne, saw the Sky Blue Stars reclaim the first position on the NPFL log after their victory.

Despite missing their Technical Adviser, Daniel Ogunmodede, the Sky Blue Stars scored two goals in the first half. However, the goals dried up in the second half as the Desert Warriors pushed back.
Remo Stars opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Peter Onuoha, like a fox in the box, chested home a rebound after the El-Kanemi Warriors goalkeeper had deflected a shot onto the woodwork.
The Desert Warriors came close to equalizing a few minutes later, in the 35th minute, but goalkeeper Obassa Adebiyi denied the visitors with a superb reflex save to his right.
As the first half was nearing its end, Remo Stars’ Franck Mawuena headed deftly from an excellent cross by Ibrahim Abubakar to make it 2-0 in the 47th minute.
The Sky Blue Stars missed a golden opportunity to add a third goal in the 65th minute when Franck Mawuena sliced his shot off target from the edge of the box.
The match ended 2-0 in favor of Remo Stars FC, who reclaimed the top spot on the NPFL log with 29 points, level with second-placed Rivers United FC but ahead on goal difference.
