Both Nasarawa United FC, the host, and Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi have something in common: a relegation fight.
The 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 16 fixture between the Solid Miners and Aliya Boys will be interesting, as it will be a battle between the landlord and the tenant.

The city of Lafia, which hosts Lafia Township Stadium, is traditionally the home ground of Nasarawa United but also serves as the home ground for the visiting Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi. This is because their traditional home ground, Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi, failed to pass the NPFL test and was subsequently barred from hosting Premier League matches.
As a result, Lobi Stars FC have made Lafia Township Stadium their fortress, and they did quite well last season, posting decent home results until the latter part of the 2023/2024 season when they started experiencing a dip in form.
Now, Lobi Stars FC faces the challenge of confronting their landlord in the Match Day 16 fixture.
For Nasarawa United FC, they received a reprieve from their last match after an ultimatum was given to the club's technical hierarchy over poor results.
The Solid Miners are still rooted at the bottom of the 2024/2025 NPFL standings with just 15 points from 15 matches—8 losses, 3 draws, and 4 wins.
Lobi Stars, on the other hand, sit in 16th position on the log, just one point ahead of bottom-placed Nasarawa United FC, who are in 20th position.
The Daniel Amokachi-led side has 4 wins, 4 draws, and 7 losses so far.
