2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 16: Bayelsa United FC cancel out Ikorodu City FC's invincibility

The reinvigorated Bayelsa United FC on Sunday ended Ikorodu City FC's unbeaten run as they defeated them 1-0.


It was a nervy match for the Oga Boys as they sought to preserve their six-match unbeaten streak, which began back in October.

Ikorodu City FC approached the match with caution, but they were outplayed by the Prosperity Boys, who held on to the lone goal lead to secure the maximum three points at stake.


The only goal of the match, played at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, came in the 79th minute courtesy of a powerful header by Rabiu Abdullahi, who chipped the visitors' goalkeeper.


The Prosperity Boys could have gone two goals up in the 79th minute, but the assistant referee raised his flag for offside.


Ikorodu City FC, however, wasted a glorious chance to level in the 90th minute inside the six-yard box, but the shot was ballooned over the bar.


The result has dropped Ikorodu City FC to third place on the NPFL log.
