2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 14: Dominant Rangers International FC decimates Lobi Stars in Enugu

Posted : 28 November 2024

Three first-half goals from Frank Uwumiro, Kenneth Igboke, and Ifeanyi Onyebuchi helped the reigning NPFL champions secure maximum points and extend their unbeaten run to seven matches as visiting Lobi Stars F.C. of Makurdi were overwhelmed 3-0 in a Match Day 14 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) 2024/2025. The game took place midweek at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

After kickoff and some early unforced errors, the coach Fidelis Ilechukwu-led side soon found their rhythm, displaying neat interchanges of passes and fluidity in midfield. Chinemerem Ugwueze, Kazeem Ogunleye, Isaac Saviour, and Ejike Ugochukwu orchestrated the attack effectively, feeding the two strikers with precision.

As early as the 4th minute, Ogunleye split the visitors' defense with a precise pass to national U-20 WAFU-B-winning assistant captain Kenneth Igboke. His inch-perfect cross narrowly missed a connection from Isaac Saviour. By the 17th minute, goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel produced a sharp reflex save to deny a thunderous 30-yard effort from Saviour.

The floodgates opened in the 27th minute when Saviour delivered a sumptuous pass to Godwin Obaje, who laid it perfectly for his strike partner to slot past a stranded Emmanuel Daniel. The home crowd erupted in celebration.

Just three minutes later, Kenneth Igboke unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box after dribbling past his marker, finding the bottom corner of the net as fans roared with delight.

On the stroke of halftime, defensive stalwart Ifeanyi Onyebuchi stabbed home the third goal after Saviour's deflected shot from a short corner fell kindly to him at the far post. This came moments after the Lobi Stars goalkeeper had denied Obaje’s left-footed effort.

In the second half, Kazeem Ogunleye’s 48th-minute goal was ruled out for offside as the “Yes Father Boys” fortified their backline to prevent further damage. Meanwhile, the “Flying Antelopes” cruised to a comfortable victory, setting their sights on Match Day 15’s “Oriental Derby” against fierce rivals Enyimba International F.C. of Aba. The match has been rescheduled by league organizers for Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba.

With this victory, Rangers now sit third on the log with 23 points, trailing leaders Remo Stars and Rivers United, both on 26 points.
