2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 13: Rivers United reclaims NPFL slot after victory

Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt on Sunday returned to the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) summit as strong rivals Remo Stars FC faltered on Match Day 13.  


Rivers United defeated visiting Abia Warriors of Umuahia 1-0, courtesy of an Ndifreke Effiong penalty in the 58th minute.

Effiong’s goal at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium helped Rivers United move to 25 points from 13 matches, with seven wins, four draws, and two losses.  


Former leaders Remo Stars dropped to second place with 23 points from 13 matches, recording seven wins, two draws, and four losses, following a 0-2 defeat to hosts Katsina United.  


Plateau United of Jos secured a 2-0 victory over visiting Nasarawa United of Lafia, strengthening their position in the standings.  


Shooting Stars Sports Club edged out Bayelsa United of Yenagoa 1-0, thanks to a 15th-minute goal by Anthony Okachi at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.  


El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri had earlier defeated Akwa United of Uyo 1-0 on Saturday, moving into third place on the table with 22 points from 13 games.  


Enyimba International of Aba remained in fourth place with 20 points from 12 matches, as their Match Day 13 game against Sunshine Stars of Akure was postponed.  


Rangers International of Enugu stayed in fifth place with 20 points after a goalless draw against hosts Heartland FC in Owerri on Saturday.  


Bendel Insurance of Benin defeated Kwara United of Ilorin 3-1, while Lobi Stars of Makurdi played to a 2-2 draw with visiting Kano Pillars in Lafia.  


The league will continue with Match Day 14 on Wednesday.
