2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 12: Remo Stars fire blank against Rivers United

In an exciting top-of-the-table clash on Match Day 12 of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Remo Stars FC of Ikenne played out a goalless draw against second-placed Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt on Sunday.  


The Pride of Rivers, coached by former Super Eagles mercurial winger Finidi George, has been trailing the Sky Blue Stars since they claimed the top position on Match Day 7 of the NPFL fixtures.

The tension-filled encounter lived up to expectations as both teams failed to find the back of the net.  


It is worth noting that Remo Stars' Technical Adviser, Daniel Ogunmodede, was absent due to national duties, leaving assistant coach Sulaimon Kamil in charge.  


Kamil made two changes to the starting lineup, introducing Emmanuel Nwokeji and Olamilekan Adedayo in place of Sani Faisal and ThankGod Ikeagwu.  


Finidi George, on the other hand, made four changes to his lineup following their surprising defeat to Bayelsa United, with captain Temple Emekayi and Nnaji Emmanuel returning to the starting XI.  


Both sides enjoyed periods of dominance and created several clear-cut chances. However, the finishing touch was missing, leaving the game scoreless.  


Rivers United will take solace in the result as it ends their losing streak after consecutive defeats to Ikorodu City and Bayelsa United. More importantly, they managed their first clean sheet in four matches, maintaining their second spot on the table with 22 points from 12 games.  


For Remo Stars, the draw ends their winning streak at home but extends their unbeaten run to six matches. They have now kept three consecutive clean sheets and continue to lead the table with 23 points from 12 games.
