2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 12: Bayelsa United, work in progress – Bosso

As Bayelsa United welcomes Katsina United FC to the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa for the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 12, coach Ladan Bosso says he needs more time to turn the club's fortunes around in the NPFL, despite the two-game ultimatum issued by the club’s management.


The former Flying Eagles coach passed the first of his two-game test by guiding the Restoration Boys to a 1-0 win over Rivers United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday, a result that lifted them out of the relegation zone.

Despite the win, which was their second in five matches and third of the season, Bosso believes the team will improve over time.


“The state has supported us all along, and I’ve been saying that we should be patient with this team. 


“This is a team of very youthful players, and I believe that is what gave us an edge over Rivers United. It’s a work in progress.


“Most of them are in their first season in the league, and you can see what they’ve offered in terms of strength, stamina, and pace.”


The Restoration Boys struggled to get going in the NPFL this season, failing to win any of their first five matches.


“We will continue to work on the team; we may change our pattern or system, but we will maintain the same players. That’s consistency,” Bosso added.


Now playing to keep his job, Bosso returned to the NPFL with Bayelsa United before the start of the season, 10 years after leading them to a surprise but significant third-place finish in 2013, with the likes of Azubuike Okechukwu, Peter Ebimobowei, and Salomon Junior key to his team’s success.


They are currently 14th in the table with 13 points after 11 games.


On the other hand, the Desert Warriors lost their invincibility with a 3-0 defeat to Shooting Stars.
