2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 11: Sunshine Stars on war path against Heartland FC in Ijebu Ode

The Heartland FC will strive for their third consecutive win when they face the wounded Sunshine Stars of Akure for the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 11 on Sunday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

Heartland FC have defeated Remo Stars and Abia Warriors in their last two games and are determined to add the visitors from Akure to their list of conquests.

The Emmanuel Amuneke-led side is truly evolving, and the past week has been full of outstanding achievements.

Two players from the team, Christian Nkwo and Ikechukwu Mgbemena, were called up to the national team.

Things got even better when Heartland beat Abia Warriors for the first time at their backyard. Goals from Micheal Ogu and Chukwuma Agor left an indelible mark in history and in the minds of the fans and supporters of Heartland FC.

Sunshine Stars picked up a 1-1 draw during their last trip to face the Owerri side, although the game was played in Awka. However, this is a renewed Heartland, determined to correct the mistakes of last season.

Ahead of Sunday’s game, Naze Millionaires’ utility player Ebuka Nwokoecha praised his teammates and the coaches for their hard work and commitment to the project.

"The credit goes to my teammates and coaches who have worked very hard and believed in this project, and I am very optimistic that there’s more to achieve."

Ebuka believes that a change in the mentality of the players has directly impacted the results on the pitch.

"What has changed is the mentality. Now, everyone is fighting for the team. Everyone wants to die for the team."

Ahead of Sunday’s game, Ebuka acknowledges that it won’t be an easy ride but is confident that Heartland will win the battle at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, while urging the fans to continue supporting the team.
