2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 11: Akwa United FC targets away win in Minna

Posted : 10 November 2024

Head coach of Akwa United, Muhammed Babaganaru, has emphasized the need for his team to maintain a consistent level of performance, noting that an away victory would greatly improve the club's fortunes.

The Promise Keepers are in Minna to face Niger Tornadoes on Sunday for the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 11. Coach Babaganaru believes that victory in Minna is achievable, stating that his team is mentally and physically prepared to fight for maximum points.

"Our home win against Kwara United on Sunday has been a big motivation for us, and we want to maintain that momentum going into this weekend's game against Niger Tornadoes.

"We’ve only secured two wins since the start of the season, so at this point, we need to focus on winning more matches and being consistent in our play, both home and away.

"The reality is that many teams have picked up points on the road, and we are also capable of doing the same.

"Coming to Minna, we have had rigorous preparations throughout the week, and my players have shown great commitment and determination.

"I’m hopeful to see them bring that same energy on Sunday because I firmly believe that an away victory would certainly turn things around for us."

Coach Babaganaru has included CHAN Eagles center-back Wisdom Ndon, forwards Friday Apollos and Chijioke Alaekwe, former Tornadoes winger Mubarak Said, as well as Jean Efala, Darlingtin Ovunda, Emmanuel James, Ubong Williams, Endurance Ebedebiri, Ubong Essien, Samuel Mathew, and Edidiong Ezekiel, among others, in his matchday squad.

Niger Tornadoes have managed just one win in their five home games, with three draws and one defeat. They have scored 10 goals and conceded 9, and currently sit 7th on the log with 14 points.

Akwa United, on the other hand, have only one point from five away matches this season, scoring 8 goals and conceding 10. They aim to maintain their strong record against Tornadoes, a team they’ve defeated eight times in twelve previous meetings, losing only four times.
