Shooting Stars had something to cheer about on Sunday as they rescued a point from the newly promoted Nasarawa United, ending the season's opener in a 1-1 draw.
The 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 1 saw the Solid Miners, returning from the lower league, play at the Lafia City Stadium in front of a cheering crowd.
The Solid Miners took the lead with a penalty converted by Anas Yusuf in the 56th minute. Yusuf also earned the Man of the Match award for his performance.
Nasarawa United could have taken an early lead when Abiubakar Aliu’s corner kick was dealt with by goalkeeper Godwin Amen, who thwarted their counterattack attempts.
The Oluyole Warriors also had their opportunities to break the deadlock in the 32nd minute, but Monday Gideon's shot was saved by goalkeeper Ameh.
An unexpected incident occurred for the Oluyole Warriors when goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal was injured and subsequently replaced by Anozie Chinedu, as it became clear he could not continue.
The center referee added eight minutes to the regulation time to compensate for the time lost while Shooting Stars’ goalkeeper was being attended to.
This addition of time proved beneficial for the Oluyole Warriors. Samuel Ayanrinde, who came on four minutes before the end of regular time, scored three minutes into the added time to level the score at 1-1.
