After waiting for more than four years, Remo Stars FC will begin another 38-game pursuit in an attempt to clinch the elusive Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) crown, starting with the first match of the 2024/2025 season opener against a rejuvenated Abia Warriors.
The newly appointed Abia Warriors coach, Imama Amapakabo, known for his record as a Nigeria league winner, is an experienced tactician who may pose challenges for the Sky Blue Stars in Aba.
However, Remo Stars, who now have their head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, as one of the assistant coaches of the Super Eagles, will have to begin the NPFL season on Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Umuahia Township Stadium without him.
The two teams met earlier this year, where the Sky Blue Stars managed to pick up a point at the stadium in Umuahia.
After finishing second last season, the team will be well aware that they need to start the season strongly to push for the trophy this time around and secure a return to the continent, marking their fourth consecutive appearance on the highest stage of African football.
While Remo Stars will be without their head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, who is currently on national duty with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Sulaimon Kamil and Yinka Sokabi will be in charge of the squad traveling to Umuahia.
Meanwhile, former NPFL league-winning coach with Rangers International in 2016, Imama Amapakabo, has joined the Ochendo Babes and will lead Abia Warriors when they face the Sky Blue Stars in the season's opening fixture.
Upon his unveiling, he promised to work tirelessly with all Abians to lead the team to glory in the new season, with his first task being against the Sky Blue Stars of Ikenne.
The two sides have met six times in the Nigeria Premier Football League, with Remo Stars winning three of the games, drawing twice, and losing only once to the Ochendo Babes.
One of Remo Stars' new signings, Alex Oyowah, has expressed his satisfaction with their record against the hosts and hopes to continue that positive trend as they travel to Abia State.
"The record is good. I think it's a positive one for us, knowing that we've never lost twice at their home, and we hope we won't lose the game on Sunday against them."
"We will try our best. Although our head coach won't be around for this encounter, that won’t stop us from giving it our all. We have a shared goal, and I have personal targets for this new season."
"I hope we have a successful season together, and I believe we will achieve greatness together," Oyowah concluded.
