Enyimba FC head coach, Yemi Olanrewaju, expressed his excitement about starting the new NPFL season with a victory.
Enyimba secured a thrilling 3-1 win over Heartland FC at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, with all three goals from the People's Elephants coming in a dramatic eight-minute span.
Heartland FC initially took the lead in the 54th minute, with Suraj scoring to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.
However, Enyimba FC responded with a flurry of goals. Substitute Ifeanyi Ihemekwele equalized in the 65th minute, setting up a remarkable sequence of events.
Jephta Clinton then took control of the match, scoring twice within three minutes—once in the 70th minute and again in the 73rd minute.
His decisive strikes secured a 3-1 victory for Enyimba and a dramatic turnaround. Olanrewaju emphasized the importance of a strong start.
“It is important to start on a good note. 37 games remain, and this one is done and dusted.”
Looking ahead, Enyimba FC’s next challenge is a trip to Mali to face Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso in the CAF Confederation Cup 2nd preliminary round.
