After enduring a poor start to the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with no recorded wins in four matches, the embattled Technical Adviser of Heartland FC has promised better days ahead.
Amuneke acknowledged the sorry state of the club, which only got a reprieve back to the elite league after Beyond Limits Academy vacated their NPFL promotion ticket due to the league's statute that forbids two clubs sharing the same ownership from participating in the elite league.
However, the 2024/2025 season has not fared better for the Naze Millionaires, but their manager, Emmanuel Amuneke, isn’t fazed by the situation.
The Naze Millionaires lost their third game of the season 0-1 to Shooting Stars last weekend in Ibadan, remaining rooted in the red zone of the table.
However, Amuneke praised the performance of his boys, whom he said dictated the rhythm of the game in the second half and created chances to at least secure a draw.
“It was a very intensive and good game, and we expected it because both teams are undergoing some sort of transformation,” Amuneke said.
“Unfortunately, we conceded the goal at the point we lost concentration. But in the second half, we controlled the game and tried to apply pressure on our opponent.
“We couldn’t take our chances, unfortunately. Generally, it was a good game for both teams.
“The changes were effective because our left back was having some challenges, and we had to substitute him to stabilize the defense.”
Amuneke outlined that the Owerri side is undergoing a rebuilding process and that, very soon, positive results will start coming.
“Heartland is a historical team, and over the years, a lot has happened.
“We came in trying to stabilize the team and see how we can bring in different ideas,” he further said.
“We also have to remember that Rome was not built in a day. This is what we are trying to do: establish the confidence that people can believe in their team, and hopefully, the team will pick up.”
