Osun United defeated ABS FC 1-0 on Saturday to claim the top position in the 2024/2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) Conference B table.
Osun United FC's Ganiyu Gberefun scored the only goal of the NNL Match Day 6 encounter via a penalty.
Ganiyu Gberefun continued his fine form in the 2024/2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) season, scoring his fifth goal to lead Osun United to a crucial 1-0 victory over Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) FC of Ilorin.
The lone goal, scored from the penalty spot in the 67th minute, was enough to send the home side to the summit of Conference B.
The match began with a cautious approach from both sides, but Osun United gradually established dominance, creating several chances to break the deadlock. Early efforts from Joseph Ahen and Emmanuel Essien showed intent, but the visitors’ goalkeeper, Saka Ajanaku, remained steadfast in goal.
The home side continued to push, with Gabriel Olamilekan coming close from a corner kick. However, the first half ended in a goalless stalemate as ABS FC’s defense held firm.
The second half saw a more aggressive Osun United side. Substitute Robiu Olateju made an instant impact, earning a penalty in the 63rd minute after being brought down by Ajanaku. Gberefun, unfazed by the pressure, stepped up and calmly converted the spot-kick, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
ABS FC responded with a late surge, coming close to equalizing in the 80th minute, but Osun United’s defense, marshaled by Gabriel Olamilekan, Paul Agbor, Adeboye Taiwo, and Francis Odudu, remained resolute.
The victory, coupled with Kun Khalifa FC’s 2-0 loss to Solution FC, propelled Osun United to the top of Conference B. The win highlights the team’s determination and Gberefun’s clinical finishing, solidifying their credentials as strong contenders for one of the playoff spots in their group.
Osun United will look to build on this performance as the NNL season progresses, with fans hopeful for continued success and strong performances from their star striker, Ganiyu Gberefun.
