This weekend, Abubakar Bukola Saraki Ilorin Football Club (ABS Ilorin FC) will face off against newcomers Godswill Akpabio FC of Uyo in a highly anticipated Nigeria National League (NNL) Match Day 5 clash.
The encounter will take place at the main bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex on Saturday, January 11.
ABS Ilorin FC is riding high after their impressive 5-2 victory over Abakaliki FC on Match Day 2 of the NNL 2024/2025 season. After a postponed Match Day 3 clash against Mandiba FC of Lagos and a draw in week four, the team is eager to build on the momentum from their week two victory and secure another home win.
Godswill Akpabio FC, on the other hand, will be seeking to consolidate their 2-1 win over Mandiba FC last weekend, which marked their first victory of the season.
The Akwa Ibom-based club, founded by former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and current Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has had a mixed start to the season, with one win, two draws, and one loss from four matches.
This matchup will be the first meeting between the two clubs, and ABS Ilorin FC coach, Sani Sarduana, is optimistic about his team's chances. "We're looking forward to tomorrow's game, and I'm confident that we'll come out with a win," he said.
ABS Ilorin FC currently occupies the eighth position in the standings with three points from two games, while Godswill Akpabio FC sits in fourth place in Conference B with five points from four matches.
