2024/2025 NNL Match Day 2: ABS FC plays down team's performance

Posted : 17 December 2024

Coach Sani Sarduana of Abubakar Bukola Saraki FC has insisted that his team is still a work in progress in the ongoing 2024/2025 Nigeria National League.

ABS secured a resounding 5-2 victory over Abakiliki FC in the 2024/2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) Match Day 2 fixture at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

The visitors took an early lead in the 22nd minute, but their advantage was short-lived as Musa Yakub equalized just 60 seconds later.

The Saraki Boys then unleashed a scoring frenzy, with Jamiu Sa'ad and Jamiu Onikoko finding the back of the net in the 25th and 27th minutes, respectively.

Jamiu Olamilekan converted a penalty in the 60th minute to make it 4-1, before Jamiu Onikoko sealed his brace and the win with a goal in the 72nd minute.

Pius Igwe scored a consolation goal for Abakiliki FC, but it was too little, too late.

Sarduana expressed his thoughts on the match, saying: "We are a work in progress.

"We are not there yet. To be promoted to the NPFL, you must be better than this.

"We have recognized the mistakes, which are part of the game, and we'll go back and work on them. I'm not overwhelmed by this result; I know my standard.

"I'm a championship-winning coach, and I always want to win—fairly. I'm happy with the boys, but we can do better."
