Despite finishing among the top five teams in the first round of the NPFL, Elkanemi Warriors’ Technical Adviser, Aliyu Zubair, has expressed confidence that the team will improve its performance in the second half of the season. The coach made these remarks following their 1-0 victory over Kano Pillars in the matchday 19 encounter in Maiduguri, which concluded the first round of fixtures.
While describing their campaign so far as "averagely good," Zubair emphasized the need to strengthen the squad to remain competitive. He stated, “So far, the team has performed averagely well, considering we just got promoted from the NNL. Nonetheless, I would say the team hasn’t performed badly, though there is still significant room for improvement.”
When asked about his goals for the second round, Zubair explained, “We don’t really have any specific target other than to continue improving with every match. There’s no perfect team in the world, and ours is no exception. We need to strengthen all departments for better performance.” He added that the team’s overall objective for the season remains a decent finish without placing unnecessary pressure on the players. “The ultimate target at the end of the season is to finish among the top five. I believe this goal is both realistic and achievable without overburdening the players or the team as a whole,” he concluded.
Elkanemi Warriors enjoyed a relatively impressive first-round performance, finishing fifth on the league table with 29 points from seven wins, eight draws, and four losses. The team scored 19 goals, conceded 18, and managed nine clean sheets during the first stanza, setting a solid foundation for the remainder of the season.
