2024/2025 CAF Champions League: Rangers secure slim win over Esperanca

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Rangers International of Enugu secured a slim win over the visiting Sagranca Esperança on Friday, in the first leg of the CAF Champions League 2nd preliminary round.


The Flying Antelopes had previously defeated US Zilimadjou of Comoros to advance to the second round of the competition.

 


Playing at their adopted home in Uyo, the hosts dominated the game but were unable to break down the visiting team's defense.


The second half resumed in the same manner as the first half ended, and coach Fidelis Ilechukwu had to make necessary changes to counter the attacking play of the Angolans, who had grown into the game.


Substitute Kazeem Ogunleye broke the deadlock in the 77th minute, securing a narrow victory for the Nigerian side.


Rangers will travel to Angola to face Esperança in the second leg, with the aggregate winner advancing to the next round.
