2024/2024 NPFL Rescheduled Match Day 17: Peace Boys Force Peoples Elephant to Barren Draw

Posted : 27 December 2024

Nigeria's nine-time league winners, Enyimba International FC, continued their woes on Thursday with an uninspiring goalless draw in Jos against the struggling Plateau United FC in the rescheduled 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 17, played at Jos International Stadium.

The Peoples Elephant thus extended their winless streak to 8 matches across all competitions.

The Yemi Olarenwaju-tutored team had earlier been held to a goalless draw by Sunshine Stars at the Enyimba Stadium in a Nigeria Premier Football League encounter last Wednesday.

The ill-fated match was their seventh consecutive game without a win (five in the NPFL and two in the CAF Confederation Cup), piling pressure on young coach Yemi Olanrewaju.

The Peoples Elephants have been plagued by a lack of goals, scoring just twice in their last five league matches. Their home form has been particularly disappointing, with three consecutive matches without a win or a goal.

Olanrewaju’s appointment followed the departure of George Finidi to the Super Eagles. The young coach now faces the daunting task of reviving Enyimba’s fortunes.

However, things failed to take shape for Enyimba International FC as they were also held in Jos with no goals to their name, which further dragged them below the top 10 on the NPFL table to 11th position.

The Peoples Elephant have 23 points from 15 matches, with three games in hand, having recorded five wins, eight draws, and two losses.
