2023/24 NPFL: Management announces draw date amidst Aug. 26 kick off

Posted : 04 August 2023
The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) board on Friday announced Aug. 17 as the date for the draws amidst the expected Aug. 26 kick off date for the 2023/24 NPFL season.

The kick off on Aug. 26 will have a full season format that will see 38 match days played by all the 20 clubs.

This was disclosed after the end of a meeting between the NPFL board and the club owners in Abuja.

Speaking at the end of the meeting, the chairman of the NPFL board Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye revealed that the draws for the new season and the Annual General Meeting of the newly inaugurated board is scheduled to hold on Aug. 17.

Elegbeleye said all the 20 NPFL clubs have agreed to adhere to the date and are prepared to commence actions.

“They have all agreed with the date and are going back to start preparations for the new season. They are all 100 per cent ready,” Elegbeleye noted.

Also speaking on the readiness of the clubs, the General Manager of Rivers United and Chairman of NPFL Club Owners, Dr Okey Kpalukwu said the clubs are ready for the kick off date which would run its full course of 38 matches and not abridged like last season.

He explained that the League Board and Managers have been mandated to make sure the league goes on as planned.

On the clubs' readiness, he said most clubs are taking part in the pre-season tourneys all over the country to put their teams in shape for the task ahead.

“For instance Rivers United has unveiled their players for next season so also some other clubs and this has shown that they are all ready. We have been engaged in pre-seson friendlies and recruited few more players. Every team is good to go,” he concluded.

Present at the meeting were the NPFL board members and representatives of the club owners and other relevant stakeholders.

The champions of the new season will get a prize money of N150,000,000 according to the league partner GTI/TNFF.
