2023/24 NPFL: Katsina Utd recruits Plateau Utd's goalkeeper, Pius Ibrahim
Posted : 03 August 2023
Promoted Katsina United has concluded their first major signing, ahead of the upcoming Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, by getting goalkeeper Pius Ibrahim to sign on the dotted lines, until July 31, 2025.
Pius Ibrahim joins from Plateau United and will bring a lot of his experience to help in strengthening the goalkeeping department of the Chanji Boys.
Katsina United returned to the nation's elite division last month, after the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super-8 promotional playoffs in Asaba and after spending just a season in the second tier league, following their relegation at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.
Recall that Pius Ibrahim was part of the Golden Eaglets set-up far back as 2005, when he and others played under the tutelage of Coach Godwin Izilien.
The shot stopper who is now a veteran goalkeeper in the NPFL, has previously kept the goal for teams like Kaduna United, Rangers International, Dolphins, Wikki Tourists of Bauchi, Abia Warriors, before joining Plateau United and his immense experience is expected to manifest on and off the field of play.
Other few other players are being pursued by the club, whose management are locked in negotiations with Coach Usman Abd'Allah to have him renew his contract.
Usman Abd'Allah took over after resigning his appointments with Wikki Tourists of Bauchi and before that, Enyimba of Aba. He led the team back to the NPFL, but wants the team more active in the transfer market ahead of next season.
The 2023/24 NPFL Season is projected to kickoff on August 26, though there is no definite or formal confirmation to this by the board of the NPFL, which for now is deep in consultations with club owners on the format for the new season, while making other preparations for the resumption of the league.
