2023/2024 NPFL Matchday One: Shooting Stars set to host Plateau United

As the much-awaited 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) sets kick off on Saturday, one of the standout matches is the battle in Ibadan, as Shooting Stars Sports Club a five-times league champions, 1976, 1980, 1983, 1995, 1998 clashes with Plateau United FC of Jos who are one-time winners in a mouth-watering fixtures lined up for the Match Day one.
The newly refurbished and all-covered Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba Ibadan will host the epic battle between Shooting Stars and Plateau United of Jos.
Both teams had clashed at the same stage of the league last season in Jos as the host came from a 1-3 down to level at 3-3.
The reverse fixtures also ended in a 3-2 win for the Oluyole Warriors but this season is set to be different with both teams coming up with a lot of fresh legs.
The Jos-based club now have a new manager after the departure of Fidelis Ilechukwu while Gbenga Ogunbote remains in charge of the Oluyole Warrior for the second straight year.
The Ibadan-based side has lost some key players but their star man last season Taofeek Malomo is still in the team.
Plateau United will be coming with the mindset of getting from the game and will bank on the experience of Daniel Itodo to cause an upset.
Head to Head, Shooting Stars SC and Plateau United have both played 10 matches so far.
Shooting Stars won three direct matches while Plateau United won 4 matches and 3 matches ended in a draw.
On average in direct matches both teams scored a 3.10 goals per match.
