2023 ValueJet Cup: Shooting Stars set up final match against Beyond Limits

Posted : 09 August 2023
Former continental club champion, Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan defeated Remo Stars of Ikenne 3-0 in the first semi finals to set up a grand finale against Beyond Limits FA in the ValueJet Cup 2023 pre-season tournament.

Shooting Stars goals were scored by Alao Danbani, Anayo Ogbonna and Ayobami Adekunle. While Beyond Limits in the second semi final played a 2-2 draw and won 4-2 by penalties to beat the Dele Aiyenugba-led Kwara United.

The final holds 3 p.m Thursday, August 10 at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.

The champion will go home with N2m, runners up N1.5m and third place N1m.

There was a mild drama in the Kwara United versus Beyond Limit match after former Super Eagles goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba who was the first choice for Kwara United had his son Daniel Aiyenugba in goal for Beyond Limit FC of Lagos.

During the penalty shootout, it was the younger Daniel Aiyenugba that had the upper hand as his team, Beyond Limit Academy scored all their four goals while Kwara United FC scored three of their penalties for Beyond Limit Academy to progress.

Bamidele Aiyenugba at the sidelines said he was happy to share the pitch with his promising star, who was the opposing goalkeeper.

``I am happy and proud for this historic feat of having me play against my own son. It's a wonderful experience and I cannot but wish my son a fruitful rise in his career.

``He needs to continue to stay humble, calm and disciplined. He is still learning and that's why he needs all the support he requires,'' he said.

Daniel Aiyenugba on his part said he was also excited to share the pitch with his revered father adding that he would have preferred him to be a player and not a goalkeeper.

``I feel excited with being on the same pitch on opposing side with my dad. It's interesting. This experience will help my career.

``As the game was going on, I was watching all the moves made by my dad, learning one or two tricks. It was a big achievement.

``My dad had wanted me to be a player and not a goalkeeper, like him, but when he watched me in goal and saw my style, he could not but support my ambition,'' he said.
