2023 Under-19 Women’s EURO semi-final preview: Netherlands vs Spain, France vs Germany
Posted : 26 July 2023
The UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship semi-finals are set, with the Netherlands facing Spain, and France taking on Germany for a spot in the final on Sunday at Den Dreef Stadium in Leuven.
This year's semi-finals are a repeat of the knockout stage ties in the 2017 edition, where Spain and France advanced to the final, and all four teams reached the last four in 2019 as well.
Spain's current roster includes ten players who were part of the U17 squad that finished as runners-up to Germany in Sarajevo, giving them added motivation to go one step further this time.
In the first semi-final, the Netherlands, who secured the top spot in Group A, will face defending champions Spain, who dominated their group to ensure a spot in the knockouts. The teams have met in previous semi-finals and even a final in 2014, with the Netherlands winning on that occasion.
In the second semi-final, France, who won all their group games, will take on Germany, who finished second in Group A. The teams have faced each other in previous semi-finals, and the winner of these encounters has always gone on to win the championship.
Both France and Germany have a strong history in the tournament, with numerous semi-final and final appearances, and multiple titles won by each team.
With previous meetings and past results in mind, the semi-finals promise to be thrilling and intense clashes as the teams compete for a place in the prestigious final.
