Five-time Champions of Federation Cup, Heartland FC of Owerri have qualified for the round 16 of the oldest competition at the expense of Essien Ayi FC.
It was a three-goal thriller at the Awka City Stadium which saw the Naze millionaires won in the capital of Anambra for the first time in three visits.
Heartland had lost 3-1 against Rangers international on her first visit to the Awka City Stadium on the May 7.
The second visit ended in a draw as Quadri Olasunkanmi 's 90th Minute strike restored parity against Edel FC on the April 8.
Heartland were able to break the jinx and grabbed victory through Christian Weli' header in the 65th Minute.
A nail-biting game of two halves saw Heartland rise to the occasion when it mattered most.
Top scorer, Onyekachi Okafor converted from the spot in the 57th minute after Chidiebere Ajoku was upended in the box.
The celebration has hardly died down when Essien Ayi struck to make matters even.
The Naze millionaires took it a notch higher with some high octane pressing which paid off as Christian Weli' restored Heartland's lead.
The Christian Obi led boys held on to win 2-1 to qualify for the round of 16.
Reacting Heartland's Technical Adviser Coach Christian Obi praised his team for a gallant display in Awka.
"I am grateful to God and my players. The players showed they wanted it more against a very stubborn team .
"They fought gallantly and am proud of them" he said.
Obi also dedicated the victory to the fans and the Gov. Hope Uzodinma for his continuous support and Motivation towards the team

Heartland will engage Cynosure FC of Abakiliki this Sunday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium for her Match Day 8 encounter in the Nigerian National League (NNL).
