2023 CAF Awards: FFCN President congratulates Osimhen, Oshoala, Nnadozie, Falcons

Posted : 12 December 2023

National President of the Football Fans Club of Nigeria (FFCN), Ambassador Oluwakemi Ogunfuwa, joined in extending congratulatory messages as Nigeria claimed the most prestigious honor at this year's CAF Football Awards in Marrakech, Morocco.

The leading Supporters Club boss, Ogunfuwa, expressed immense joy when Nigeria's Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen, was named African Best Player, 29 years after Nigeria last held this prestigious title. Fondly called "Mama Nigeria," Ogunfuwa stated that the award signifies the Supporters Club's pride, with Hakimi and Salah closely contested, and Nigeria regaining respect on the African continent.

Another notable achiever is Asisat Oshoala, securing the award for a record 6th time, while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie claimed the Goalkeeper of the Year (Women) honor.

As the first woman to lead the Supporters Club on the continent and the initial woman to win the CAF Fan of the Match 2018 award, Ogunfuwa expressed excitement witnessing several awards coming to Nigeria. She particularly highlighted Osimhen and Oshoala winning prestigious feats, along with Chiamaka Nnadozie securing the best goalkeeper award for the female category.

Ogunfuwa conveyed congratulations on behalf of the Football Fans Club of Nigeria, extending best wishes to all sports-loving Nigerians. She praised Osimhen, Oshoala, and Nnadozie, as well as the Super Falcons as a team, for bringing honor to Nigeria.

Expressing her joy, she emphasized the need for the Super Eagles and Super Falcons to consistently strive for excellence, maintaining this level of achievement, especially as preparations for the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next year are underway.

Ogunfuwa asserted that a 24-year hiatus at the African award is unacceptable, emphasizing that winning is part of Nigeria's culture. The University of Lagos alumna urged continuous dedication to securing more awards.

Notably, Osimhen made history by becoming the first player in the African Football Awards to be crowned Player of the Year (Men) after previously winning the Young Player of the Year (Men). Last Monday, he was also crowned the 2022/2023 Player of the Year in Italy's Serie A, following his Young Player of the Year win in the 2021/2022 season.
