2023 AFCON Qualifiers: The Super Eagles return home
Posted : 19 June 2023
The Super Eagles on Monday arrived Nigeria after securing the Africa Cup of Nations AFCON qualification ticket against Sierra Leone on Sunday.
Africa Sport Network (ASN) reports that the Super Eagles in a hard-fought victory escaped the Leone Stars ambush in last gap winning ball orchestrated by Leicester City FC forward, Kelechi Iheanacho.
The Jose Peseiro-tutored team had earlier surrendered a two first half goals lead scored by red-hot Italian Serie A highest goal scorer, Victor Osimhen.
The Leone Stars rallied back from two goals deficit after which Super Eagles had the last laugh with a curling effort from Iheanacho who scored the last gap goal to end the match at 3-2.
The Super Eagles now comfortably leads the Group A standings and cemented the qualifications to the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, with a game to spare against Sao Tome and Principe in September.
However, the victorious team arrived at Murtala Mohammed International airport around 1:40 am Nigeria time via Air Peace chartered flight.
They immediately dispatched to the lounge after which they will be dispersed to their various bases.
