2023/24 Match Day 10: Sunshine Queens thrash FC Robo in Akure

Posted : 22 March 2024

Two first-half goals from the duo of Taiwo Ajibade and Shola Oduwale, along with an own goal, were all Sunshine Queens FC needed to thrash FC Robo in matchday 10 of the Nigeria Women's Football League (NWFL) at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.

Adeyemo Fasilat scored an own goal in the first two minutes of play from an entertaining encounter, courtesy of Akubo Obianuju's free kick.

Sunshine Queens mounted pressure on the unsettled FC Robo in the third minute, with their goalkeeper saving Bolaji Olamide’s strike in the fifth minute.

Taiwo Ajibade wasted no time in making it two for Sunshine Queens in the 8th minute from a beautiful final pass from her teammate.

Moments later, Shola Oduwale won a penalty for the Akure Landladies after being fouled inside the box in the 11th minute.

The rugged attacker stepped forward and converted from the spot to increase Sunshine Queens' lead to three.

Sunshine Queens goalkeeper, Precious Aaron, denied FC Robo several times.

Suliat Ajibade, Akubo Obianuju, and Amaka Augusta combined well in the midfield to take control of the game.

Also, Sunshine Queens’ defense, marshaled by Divine Onwuchekwa, Joy Falegan, Aluba Ogba, and Kehinde Aganmuyi, ensured their side ended the first half without conceding.

The restart of the encounter recorded no further goals, despite FC Robo’s pressure to turn the table around with their attacking tactics.

The host's defense, controlled by the cool, calm, and calculated goalkeeper, Precious Aaron, was on hand to keep it clean for their side.

To seal the game, Sunshine Queens substituted Akubo Obianuju and Bolaji Olamide for Ireti Eretan and Precious Edewor, while Suliyat Ajibade made way for Bunmi Adenuga and Mercy Mbachu. Ugu Rita was also replaced by Amaka Augusta and Joy Falegan.

The last chance of the encounter came the way of Sunshine Queens with Kehinde Aganmuyi's strike inches above the crossbar.

The host kept the maximum points in the kitty with a clean sheet.

Sunshine Queens head Coach, Oladimeji Abimbola, commended his players for playing according to the game plan.

Abimbola said his team will maintain the winning tempo to ensure they maintain their position on the log.

Sunshine Queens' next match will be against Edo Queens in matchday 11.
