Heartland Queens' goalkeeper, Uchenna Chukwu, has assured the team's loyal fans that she is ready to battle her former club, Nasarawa Amazons, in the next home match at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, in a few days.
Chukwu, who joined the Owerri side this season, has worked diligently to secure the number one spot amidst stiff competition in the goalkeeping department. Heartland Queens are blessed with many talented goalkeepers.
The hard-working goalkeeper has had an outstanding performance since the beginning of the season, keeping five clean sheets in nine NWFL Premiership matches. It's worth mentioning that she has also contributed to one goal this season.
So far, Chukwu has only conceded four goals in nine matches this season, with two of them coming from penalty kicks against Abia Angels and Adamawa Queens, while the other two were from open play.
This season, the impressive goalie leads the NWFL Premiership Group A goalkeepers' chart with the highest number of clean sheets and fewest conceded goals. She is determined to increase this record when Heartland Queens face her former team, Nasarawa Amazons, next week.
In a brief interview with Heartland Queens' media, Chukwu revealed that her goal this season is to achieve 10 clean sheets before the Super Six tournament.
"This season, I've maintained five clean sheets in nine matches. My target is to reach 10 clean sheets before the Super Six tournament starts, so I work hard every day during training," said Chukwu.
"I want to thank our coaches, especially our goalkeeper trainer, Dino Eugene. They keep pushing us to be our best. We have talented goalkeepers in our team, so the competition to be the starting goalkeeper is tough. You have to perform at your best to earn the spot on match day," she added.
"Our next match is at home against Nasarawa Amazons, and I plan to keep a clean sheet. Last time, we were denied at least a draw in Lafia, but this time we'll show them how to win cleanly with good football.
"My teammates and I are determined to defeat Nasarawa Amazons. They are a strong team, but we'll prove that we're the better side on matchday 10," Chukwu concluded.
Heartland Queens will face Nasarawa Amazons on Wednesday, March 20, at Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri on matchday 10, aiming to reclaim the top spot.
It's worth remembering that Heartland Queens lost 0-1 to Nasarawa Amazons in their first encounter on matchday 2 at Lafia City Stadium. Victory in this crucial match will propel Heartland Queens back to the top of the group standings.
