2023/2024 NPFL Rescheduled Match Day 36: Sunshine Stars escape relegation scare in Gombe

Sunshine Stars have survived their relegation scare after a spirited 1-0 win over condemned Doma United FC at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe for the rescheduled 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 36.


However, the result came with misfortune, as Doma United FC are now as good as relegated to the second tier of the Nigerian League (NNL) next season.


The result has left a sour taste in the mouths of Gombe football fans after witnessing the second team from the state follow the same path as sister club Gombe United FC in just one season.


The Nigeria Premier Football League match was postponed due to an accident the Northern team encountered while traveling for the match.


Yusuf Ibrahim scored the only goal for the Owena Waves seven minutes before the break.


With this victory, Sunshine Stars moved up to 10th position in the Nigeria Premier Football League table with 52 points from 37 games.


Meanwhile, Doma United remain in 18th position and are almost certain to be relegated to the Nigeria National League (NNL).


The Savannah Tigers have managed just one win in their last 18 league games.


The final games of the 2023–24 season will be played on Sunday.
