On Wednesday, Kano Pillars Football Club of Kano defeated visiting Bayelsa United 3-0 in the 2023/2024 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day 6 fixture.
The match, which took place at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kofar-Mata, attracted a large number of spectators.
The emphatic win over Bayelsa United FC marked the third home victory for the Sai Masu Gida team this season.
Kano Pillars broke the deadlock in the 30th minute with a long-range shot scored by Mubarak Sani.
The hosts sealed the victory with their second and third goals, which were scored by veteran captain Rabiu Ali and substitute Abba Adam in the 50th and 81st minutes of the game, respectively.
Kano Pillars coach, Abdul Maikaba, stated that the team's collective determination to win played a crucial role in securing the victory.
"After our journey from our Match Day 5 fixture, where we lost to Rangers, we went back to the drawing board and developed better strategies for future games," the coach explained.
Maikaba mentioned that the team would prepare for their upcoming match against Sporting Lagos with the goal of earning maximum points.
Bayelsa United's head coach, Diepreye Tiebowei, acknowledged that the Kano team capitalized on their chances in both the first and second halves.
He praised his team for their efforts despite the fatigue.
Tiebowei called for the elimination of midweek games in the NPFL due to the long hours spent traveling for away matches.
Kano Pillars now have nine points from six matches and will play their next game away against Sporting Lagos.
