2023/2024 NPFL Match Day 6: Doma Utd FC's goals go dry against Bendel Insurance FC

With many expecting a repeat of the Match Day 7 upset, when Doma United ran away with a 3-0 victory against their next-door neighbors, in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 7, things took a different turn on the rescheduled Match Day 6. The Savannah Tigers failed to replicate the form that saw them score thrice, going goalless against Bendel Insurance of Benin.

It was the other way around as Bendel Insurance FC subdued Doma Utd of Gombe state on Wednesday to secure their first away point after a goalless draw in the rescheduled Match Day Six of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The Benin Arsenals, aware of the potential in the technically sound Doma Utd side that thrashed Gombe Utd 3-0 on Sunday at the Pantami stadium, approached the game courteously. Goalkeeper Amas Obasogie and defenders Benjamin Tanimu, Sunday Anyanwu, Julius Emiloju, Stanley Okorom, along with Sodje Stephens and Tamara Ezikiel, were alive to their responsibilities, curtailing the roaring Savannah Tigers to survive in the savannah jungle.

Insurance FC lost 1-0 to Gombe Utd in the Match Day 4 encounter at the same Pantami stadium in Gombe. They did everything to avoid similar mistakes against Doma Utd in their second appearance at the Pantami stadium.

The rescheduled match was the first clash between Insurance FC and Doma Utd in the premier league and their second meeting ever, following the NNL 2021/22 season-ending Super Four in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, which the Benin Arsenals won 2-1.

Insurance FC now has eleven points from the six games they have played so far, securing the seventh position on the log.

The Benin Arsenals will face Niger Tornadoes as their next opponents in the Match Day 8 fixture.
