Posted : 23 October 2023
Remo Stars of Ikenne earned well-deserved bragging rights over title-chasing Sporting Lagos FC as they beat the Lagos Boys 2-1 on Match Day 4 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Remo Stars had to recover from a one-goal deficit to spring a surprise and defeat Sporting FC of Lagos 2-1, in the very first South-West derby of the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Sporting Lagos FC's Jonathan Alukwu had given his side the lead with a well-taken goal in the 21st minute of the fiercely contested encounter.
Franck Mauiena struck the equalizer for Remo ten minutes later.
Sikiru Alimi then scored from 12 yards to give the Sky Blues a lead, which they maintained until full time, despite an interruption that saw the game suspended. It was eventually concluded under floodlights at the ultra-modern stadium in Ikenne-Remo.
The victory took Coach Daniel Ogumodede's tutored side's points tally to nine (9) from four games, one point ahead of Lobi Stars of Makurdi, who scored twice in the first half of their fixture in Lafia against Abia Warriors of Umuahia, securing a comfortable 2-0 victory.
