The Head Coach of Sporting Lagos, Abdullah Biffo, expressed deep regret over his club's relegation on the final day of the NPFL 2023/2024 season. Following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Shooting Stars at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Sunday, Coach Biffo addressed journalists and emphasized the significant impact his team's departure will have on the Nigerian top-flight league.

"It's a tough situation. In football, you either succeed or face challenges. What is certain is that the NPFL will feel the absence of Sporting Lagos's quality in the league. Their professional structure is exactly what we need to elevate our league standards," remarked Coach Biffo solemnly.

He highlighted Sporting Lagos's well-organized setup and strategic approach, noting, "They understand their roles well. This season was a learning curve for everyone involved—management, players, and coaching staff alike."

Sporting Lagos concluded their maiden season in the league in the 17th position with 46 points, ultimately leading to their relegation to the Nigeria National League (NNL). The setback serves as a poignant lesson for the entire club, prompting reflections on areas for improvement and future strategies.

"This experience will strengthen us. We will regroup, learn from our mistakes, and come back stronger," affirmed Coach Biffo, displaying resilience amidst disappointment.

As Sporting Lagos transitions to the Nigeria National League, Biffo remains optimistic about their ability to bounce back. He stressed the importance of continuity and development, asserting, "Our journey doesn't end here. We will rebuild and aim to return to the top flight with renewed vigor."

The impact of Sporting Lagos's relegation extends beyond their immediate standings, underscoring the competitive nature of Nigerian football and the challenges clubs face in maintaining consistency and performance throughout the season.

Coach Biffo concluded on a note of gratitude to fans and stakeholders, pledging, "We appreciate the support throughout this season. We will work tirelessly to reclaim our position among the elite teams in Nigerian football."
