Federation Cup holders Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin succumbed to arch rivals Rangers International of Enugu 2-0 on Sunday, June 16, in Match Day 37 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).


Kenechukwu Agu and Nwobodo Chidiebere scored a goal each, one in each half, to hand the Flying Antelopes a hard-earned victory and the 2024 Premier League title at the Cathedral.


Kenechukwu Agu opened the scoring for Rangers in the 34th minute with a well-taken free kick from about 20 yards that went straight into the net, lighting up the full-capacity Nnamdi Azikiee Stadium. Nwobodo Chidiebere doubled the lead for the Flying Antelopes in the 64th minute, sealing victory for his side.


The match between the two traditional teams undoubtedly lived up to its hype as Insurance made the new champions sweat for success with their mass attack and mass defense style of play.


Divine Nwachukwu, Evans Ogbonda, Chisom Okereke, and substitute Vincent Okeke kept Rangers' defenders on their toes throughout the second half of the breathtaking game, but they were unlucky to get any breakthrough.


Recall that Bendel Insurance began the new year with a 2-0 victory over Rangers Int'l on Saturday, January 6, 2024, in the first round of the league in Benin.


Bendel Insurance will host Bayelsa Utd in the final game of the season in Benin. Victory over Bayelsa Utd will ensure that the Benin Arsenals finish the straight league season on 56 points.
