The defending champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Enyimba International FC, are keen to retain their title and make history,” says Kanu Nwankwo, the club's chairman.

The former Ajax, Inter Milan, and Arsenal legend made this assertion in anticipation of Match Day 33 as Enyimba International FC prepares to face its sister club, Abia Warriors, in Umuahia.

Kanu, on his expectations for the local derby, said it should be a win for his club, but more than this, the league champions desire to retain their trophy.

“It’s going to be tough, not only for Rangers and Enyimba, but we have others there, but the truth is that as it is, Rangers are the favorites, but they have to keep going. Football is what you can’t really predict or say.

“Our boys are ready; they are keen to win the league.

``Of course, we are defending champions and we don’t want to let go; we have to do more.

``I can see in them they want to make history in the sense they are going to do back-to-back, but it’s going to be difficult.

``All the same, I feel good about the position where we are, and I feel that by God’s Grace, we can do it, but let’s cross our fingers.”

When asked about losing the services of Coach Finidi George, who is now the head coach of the Super Eagles, Kanu said he will be greatly missed by the players, management, and the fans. However, the team has had similar situations when he went with the Super Eagles to national assignments, especially the AFCON. He added that the nation needs his services now, but his assistant, Coach Yemi Olarenwaju, will pilot the affairs of the club until the end of the season, and that the management has confidence in him and the rest of the technical crew to finish the job.
