Ahead of the Matchday 32 encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League between Sporting Lagos FC and Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia, which promises to be an exciting match, the Pride of Abia has arrived in Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria.
The team is expected to have a feel of the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, the venue of the much-anticipated league encounter on Saturday afternoon, in what will be the team's first and final training session.
Both the playing staff and the technical crew are anticipating a favorable result for the Warriors.
The team's captain, Augustine Njoku, who shared his optimism on the Super Sunday clash, said he was confident of maximum points.
"I am very, very sure and confident that we are going to get a positive result come Sunday in Lagos because we've put in a lot of work. During the week, the coaches have also put in a lot of work to prepare us, the players.
"I believe, and I'm confident we are going to get nothing less than a positive result come Sunday in Lagos."
Abia Warriors played a one-all draw against Sporting Lagos when both sides clashed at the Umuahia Township Stadium during the first leg, and the Umuahia-based side will be looking to do better this time.
For now, Sporting Lagos FC is not in the best of form, sitting in the 14th position on the NPFL log, having lost three of the last five matches, with one draw and one win.
Just about a week ago, the management of the Tech Boys sacked its erstwhile coach, Paul Offor, and replaced him with Abdullahi Biffo, a former Kwara United FC and Katsina United FC handler.
In their message, Sporting Lagos FC said that the club was delighted to welcome Abdullahi Biffo as the new Head Coach. It added that Biffo's attacking and possession-based football saw him secure continental football for Kwara United with a 3rd-place finish in 2021, and they would expect a repeat with the Noisy Lagosians.
However, Biffo's first game on the bench of the Noisy Lagosians was nothing but a disaster as his new team was pummeled 0-2 by his former club, Katsina United FC.
Perhaps the next match against Abia Warriors might be a redemption of what to expect from him as he must have settled down well enough in the club.
For Abia Warriors, the team sits in the 11th position, having won two, lost two, and drawn one in their last five games.
As for Abia Warriors, Daniel Ijeh is the only injury concern at the moment, while the team's versatile defender, Goodluck Ozioma, has revealed the significant role his teammates and the club's Sporting Director, Emeka Ifejiagwa, played during his rehabilitation.
Ozioma, who missed the first half of the season due to injury, has recovered just in time and will hopefully be available to play in the remaining league games and the FA Cup competition. In the latter competition, he helped the team once again become Abia State FA Cup champions.
He noted that their words of encouragement helped him to pull through.
Head to head
The only match between the duo ended 1-1 in Umuahia.
