As the former Nigeria League winners, Akwa United FC continues to search for points to shore up its standing on the league table and to avoid a drop from the elite league in the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), it will now be the turn of the Promise Keepers to show up in Ilorin for a possible points against another relegation-threatened team, Kwara United FC.

The Matchday 31 NPFL encounter between Kwara United and Akwa United, earlier fixed for 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 20, 2024, was rearranged to hold on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 4:00 pm.

The rearrangement, as requested by Kwara United, was to make room for a state function scheduled by the State government at the Main Bowl of the Stadium Complex, the venue of the match.

The request for rearrangement was approved by the NPFL, and all logistical arrangements were concluded to have the match held at the Main Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex on Sunday, starting from 4:00 pm.

According to the club Chairman, Kumbi Titiloye, "the state government, through the Kwara State Sports Commission, has stated that the venue will not be available for our match against Akwa United FC, which was initially scheduled to hold on Saturday, April 20, at 2:00 pm.

"It was on that basis that we wrote to the NPFL requesting rearrangement, which they have approved.

Titiloye, therefore, urges the fans, supporters, and stakeholders to come out in large numbers on Sunday to support the club against visiting Akwa United, pointing out that their support has been sustaining the team.

Kwara United is currently 14th on the NPFL log with 36 points and a minus-four goal deficit. The club has an outstanding game against Rivers United FC at home in Ilorin.

Currently, Kwara United ranks 14th, while Akwa United holds the 18th position.
