Coach Kennedy Boboye continues to guide Sunshine Stars FC out of their former confused state, and now the team is enjoying an impressive run of form as they denied Abia Warriors maximum points in one of the Match Day 26 fixtures played at the Umuahia township stadium.
After their 1-0 win over Kano Pillars, Abia Warriors, who had yet to secure maximum points, looked forward to bouncing back to winning ways when they faced Sunshine Stars of Akure in Umuahia on Matchday 26. However, this was not to be as Nigerian league specialist, Boboye, orchestrated his team to snatch a point away from Abia Warriors in Umuahia.
Riding on a four-match unbeaten run, Coach Kennedy Boboye's tutored side ambushed Abia Warriors at their home turf in Umuahia, hoping to carry away points when the two sides squared up on matchday 26.
The game started with the Warriors creating most of the chances from the midfield, orchestrated by Daniel Wotlai, who later won the Man-of-the-Match award sponsored by Divine Touch. He was selected by sports writers who covered the game, while the visitors offered more time-wasting antics throughout the match, to the consternation of the match officials and spectators.
Sunshine Stars had their goalkeeper, Ishola Abdulateef, to thank for keeping them level in the first half, after making brilliant saves from Megwo, Anaemena, Meme, and Ojonugwa's efforts.
It was the same scenario in the second half, with Abdulateef keeping Sunshine Stars in the game.
Abia Warriors, however, came closest to scoring when Prince Okorie's header off Ojonugwa's corner kick hit the upright with the goalkeeper transfixed.
Despite substitutions made by both sides, neither broke the deadlock, and the game ended goalless, with the visitors clearly the happier of the two sides.
Up next for Abia Warriors is a midweek FA Cup tie against Uchecaria FC in Aba, before making a cross-country trip for an NPFL fixture against Katsina United in Katsina.
