2023/2024 NPFL Match Day 22: 5-Star Katsina United outclass Kano Pillars

It was a game with high expectations, given its importance for the soul of the Northwest between two closely-knit brothers, Kano and Katsina. The 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 22, featuring the resurgent Katsina United FC and Kano Pillars FC, two-time winners of the league, lived up to its billing as it produced masterstroke events.


The 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match between the Changi Boys and Sai Masu Gida was hosted at Umaru Dikko Stadium in Katsina with a handful of supporters.


This time around, it is the turn of the Changi Boys to claim the bragging rights in the Northwest derby as they ran away with a 3-2 scoreline.


It was Jonas Emmanuel who opened the floodgate of goals with a superb finish in the 32nd minute, after which Yuga equalized in the 50th minute for the Sai Masu Gida side.


Katsina United FC's Azeez Falalu restored the lead at 2-1 with a header before substitute Yahaya Nazifi benefited from Habib Yakubu’s mistake in the 70th minute to make it 3-1.


Mustapha Umar pounced on a rebound after goalkeeper Ibrahim Pius failed to deal with Rabi’u Ali's long-range shot to reduce the deficit. It turned out to be a mere consolation for the visitors as the Changi Boys ran away with a 3-2 lead.
