Plateau United FC of Jos dented the hopes of high-flying Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi to remain at the summit of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) by condemning them to a 2-1 defeat on Sunday.
The Match Day 20 North Central derby was played at the Jos Township Stadium as the Peace Boys claimed the bragging rights.
Plateau United FC scored the first goal in the 41st minute following a beautiful play from Hillary Albert to Silas Nenrot, who gave a short pass to Sam Pam. Pam then squared the ball to Umar Leg, who finished perfectly to put the team in the lead.
With the first half ending 1-0, the Peace Boys started off where they left off, as Albert Hillary capitalized on Itodo's deflected throw-in to score the second goal. However, Kumanga Suur reduced the deficit for the visitors three minutes later.
Despite the goal, Lobi Stars now occupy the second place on the NPFL table with 36 points, the same as league leaders Remo Stars, but with a superior goal difference.
